Residential/Commercial Garbage

The City of Devils Lake collects residential and commercial garbage inside the Devils Lake city limits. The city is divided into five different zones, each with their own collection day. Garbage is collected once a week and recycling is collected every other week. To determine the day your garbage and recycling is collected, refer to the Garbage/Recycling Schedule.

Residential Garbage Collection

On collection day, garbage must be placed out for collection by 7 AM. If you have alley access, garbage containers must be placed in stands within 15 feet of the alley and be accessible at all times of the year. In areas without alley access, garbage containers must be placed within 15 feet of the curb and containers must be removed from the boulevard after collection. During the spring of each year, those with alley collection may have garbage collection moved to the boulevard to allow for maintenance of the alleys. Refer to the City Website or the City Facebook page for updates.

Residential customers must supply their own garbage cans (max. 32 gallons) and have provided stickers visible on each can or in a prominently displayed location. Stickers for garbage cans can be picked up at City Offices once garbage service is started. All garbage must be placed in garbage bags before being placed in garbage containers with a maximum allowable weight of 50lbs per can. Any garbage that does not fit in the can(s) must be placed in special blue collection bags or it will not be picked up. Special blue collection bags can be purchased at Walmart, Leever’s Foods or City Offices.

Commercial Garbage Collection

Dumpsters are available in 1 CY, 1.5 CY, 3 CY or 6 CY capacity and may be picked up as little as once a week or as often as six times a week. Cost for dumpster service is a base charge for each month plus additional charges for each CY of garbage picked up and the frequency of service per week. Refer to Garbage Service Rates and Fees for current rates. To make arrangements for dumpster rental or purchase, contact the Sanitation Department at 701.662.7624 or City Offices at 701.662.7600 Ex 1.

Holiday Garbage Collection

The City of Devils Lake observes the following holidays and will not pickup garbage/recycling on these days. City observed holidays are noted throughout the City Calendar. Garbage and recycling pickup falling on a holiday will be picked up the next working day. Refer to the City Website (link to home page) or the City Facebook page for any updates.
