Starting Services

To change the utilities into your name at a business or residence, contact the Utility Billing Department by calling (701) 662-7600 Ext 1 or stop into City Offices located at 423 6th St NE. Please note, prior to transferring utilities into your name, we must read your water meter.

To transfer utilities into your name, there is a new customer account fee of $15.00 or a utility name change fee of $7.50. If there is no meter in the residence/business, there is a $35.00 meter installation fee. All charges will be included on your first bill.

Stopping Services

To stop utility services at a business or residence, contact the Utility Billing Department by calling (701) 662-7600 Ext 1 or stop into City Offices located at 423 6th St NE.

Temporarily Stopping Services

If you wish to temporarily stop your utility services due to an extended time away from home, you must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Resident must be away from the residence for a minimum of one month
  • Resident must inform the Utility Billing Department of date of departure and return
  • Water must be turned off by a City of Devils Lake Public Works employee

If the water meter is not removed, the customer will be credited for garbage can charges only for the months when no water is used. If all services are disconnected (water meter removed), no utility services will be billed while you are away, but when the water meter is re-installed, the $35.00 meter installation fee will be charged.
