Children's Librarian
Children’s Librarian, under direct supervision of the Library Director, provides library services
that promote and encourage literacy and a love of reading for youth, parents, and
educators. Children’s Librarian plans, promotes, and executes youth programming, as well as
oversees the development of the youth collection (children, juvenile, and teen materials). The
Lake Region Public Library is seeking a creative candidate with passion and energy, and the
ability to instill the same passion and energy for reading in the youth of the Lake Region.

Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Responsible for planning and implementing storytimes, school-age programming, and the annual youth summer reading program.
- Develops and implements innovative programs that encourage library use and enhance the value of the library in the Lake Region.
- Evaluates and maintains the children’s collection from acquisition to deaccession. Adheres to Lake Region Public Library’s Collection Development Policy to cultivate children’s collection.
- Incorporates timely and relevant technologies into library services and programs; trains the public on use of these technologies and other library resources.
- Creates professional and timely displays of library materials.
- Maintains current knowledge of organizational procedures, processes, policies, and operations.
- Provides outstanding internal and external customer service. Demonstrates a positive attitude and supports library goals and objectives.
- Represents the library at community events and in community organizations; maintains positive working relationship with partner institutions.
- Attends state, regional, and/or national conferences, professional meetings, and workshops as able and as budget allows.
- Provides circulation desk coverage as needed.
- Publicly promotes a positive image of the library.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Understanding of child development and children’s literature, acquired by at least one of the following ways:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in library science or related field;
- Associate’s degree; or
- Two or more years’ experience working with children, preferably in a library.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior public or school library work experience preferred. Evidence of continued interest in the field of library work. Willingness to be a children’s and young adults' advocate.
