Water Source

The City of Devils Lake uses the Spiritwood Aquifer as its primary water source for drinking water for the City’s residents. In April of 2009, the City began using water from the newly constructed well field, near Hamar, ND, consisting of 4 – 250’ deep wells and a newly installed transmission line consisting of 32 miles of 16” PVC pipe. This work was completed in partnership with State and Federal agencies as part of a greater project including the construction of the Devils Lake Water Treatment Plant. The current water source complies with the Safe Drinking Water Act regulations and provides the City with higher-quality water than the previous water source.

City of Devils Lake Water Treatment Plant (DLWTP)

The City of Devils Lake owns and operates a water treatment plant capable of producing 3 million gallons per day (MGD) in accordance with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) regulations. The DLWTP was built in partnership with State and Federal agencies and has been in operation since November of 2010.
 
On average, 1.5 million gallons of water are treated per day, with a peak summer demand of 2.8 million gallons. Water that passes through the DLWTP is treated using various processes including aeration, chemical oxidation, detention, greensand gravity filtration and chlorine disinfection to convert ground water with varying quality into a consistently safe, soft and good-tasting drinking water. Treated drinking water is pumped into the water distribution system by high service pumps located within the DLWTP. The DLTWP is interconnected with the Greater Ramsey Water District and the Northeast Regional Water District to provide additional drinking water to their customers.

Water Distribution Network

The water distribution system is an elaborate network of approximately 86 miles of water pipe ranging in diameter from 4” to 16”, incorporating approximately 500 hydrants, 880 valves and 1200 curb stops. Two underground reservoirs and the City Water Tower provide approximately 4 million gallons of water storage.

Consumer Confidence Reports

The City of Devils Lake is required by the Safe Drinking Water Act to prepare an annual Consumer Confidence Report to provide customers with information on drinking water quality and allow them to make health-based decisions on drinking water consumption. It is the City’s goal to provide you with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water and this report highlights the steps taken to achieve that goal.
