Full-time School Resource Police Officer

The Devils Lake Police Department is accepting applications for the position of School Resource Police Officer.  Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, at least 21 years of age, with a high school diploma or GED.  The successful applicant will have completed a police academy and be licensed or eligible to be licensed as a peace officer.  Out of state applicants that have completed a police academy will be required to attend a transition course.  Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clear criminal history, no recent major traffic violations, and be of good moral character.  Military service with a DD 214 indicating Honorable discharge must be sent with the application to qualify for Veterans Preference.  Applicants must pass a medical screening, psychological screening, and background investigation which may include credit history, and driving history.  Applicants may be required to submit to a polygraph examination, drug screening, or other screening as necessary.  All uniforms, leather and sidearm provided. An SRO's primary role is to provide law enforcement-type services to a school to encourage everyone to follow all the school regulations. SROs investigate allegations of criminal incidents and make referrals of students to juvenile authorities, when necessary. SROs are expected to work to reduce juvenile delinquency rates by establishing close contact with students and to build positive relationships with them.  The ability to work closely with school administrators is a must for any SRO, as is the ability to train school personnel in handling crisis situations. As an SRO, you also must attend and participate in many school functions, including at night and on weekends.  Starting salary is $3,295-3,564/month depending on experience.  ND PERS law enforcement retirement is offered plus an optional 457 retirement plan.  Benefits include Blue Cross Blue Shield medical insurance which includes dental and vision.  Single rate is 100% paid by the city, family plan is 80% paid.  Vacation and sick leave benefits are also provided.

The City of Devils Lake is accepting applications for a person to operate the street sweeper on a part-time basis. Applications are available at City Hall, online below, or at North Dakota Job Service.
